Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Thorsten Bach and his team from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for the approval of their Collaborative Research Center CRC 325 „Assembly Controlled Chemical Photocatalysis”.

The goal of the CRC 325 to create new structures and to explore novel reactions by capturing light, ideally visible light. The dramatic development in the field over the past ten years has changed the way we do organic synthesis. Light-driven reactions allow the facile generation of reactive intermediates, which are key components in bond-forming events. The selectivity and productivity of photocatalytic transformations depend significantly on the interaction between the substrate and the catalytically active species before, during, and after light excitation. However, for most reported photocatalytic and photochemical reactions these interactions are ill-defined or unknown.

We wish them the best of luck for their research and hope to hear more soon at one of our events!

They discussed on which levels networking and professional cooperation within CataLysis might be helpful and already established a common communication workspace on Slack.

They propose to establish a common event calendar within CataLysis to make the public events of each CRC known to the community. Additionally, they exchanged experiences with online social events.

Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Peter Wasserscheid and his team from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg for the approval of their Collaborative Research Centre on “Catalysis at Liquid Interfaces” (CLINT).

The CRC 1452 is pursuing a completely new approach in chemical reaction engineering as it is using the highly-dynamic anisotropic environment of gaseous-liquid and liquid-solid interfaces to create technical catalysts with new properties and as yet unattained productivity, stability and manageability. The aim is to combine the understanding of catalytic processes with targeted material development, which is why the research will include everything from model systems to real catalysts and incorporate in-situ methods.

We wish them the best of luck for their research and hope to here more soon at one of our events!
